Are you feeling it’s time to kick start your finances?
Reviewing and staying on top of your finances is a great way to ensure that you financially stay in shape.

Here are some strategies to help you slay your debt, boost your budget, and ensure you stay on top of it all.
1. Make a small automatic transfer to a different account
Most of us have heard the saying “Out of sight, Out of mind.”
Use that same concept by having a small portion of your paycheck automatically transferred to a different account.
I’ve done this with my payroll account, where I divert a small portion to my savings.
It’s a great way to rev up and kick start your finances.
It’s amazing how fast it builds up. Every time I look at my balance slowly increasing, I repeat my favorite saying “Little makes much”.
2. Slay FOMO and spend time at home
FOMO – the Fear Of Missing Out – can be detrimental to your finances.
From deciding not to go on a 7-day cruise with my friends to not going to a concert and choosing to stay home instead – the fear of missing out can strike hard!
Yep! I can’t help but feel that I’m seriously missing out on all of the fun.
However, staying in (occasionally) and working on this blog or one of my many other projects takes precedence while paving my path for future residual income.
Fight the Fear Of Missing Out while you’re building your future.
3. Cook at home.
Cooking at home can be one of the best ways to slim down but fatten up your savings.
You will also know exactly what goes in your dish, so you can make it an even healthier meal.
Not the greatest cook? Or you don’t know how to cook?
Make YouTube your best friend and find an easy dish to start your self-training.
Maybe an Insta Pot is more to your liking to help you cook more meals at home. Instant Pot’s are very popular now.
These versatile, pressure cookers are used as a slow cooker, used to cook rice, saute, steam food, make yogurt, and even more.
More choices for cooking meals is the $5 Meal Plan .
The $5 Meal Plan is a weekly meal plan service that can make your meal planning as simple as possible.
For just $5 a month, you will receive a delicious meal plan where every meal will cost about $2 per person, and in most cases less.
You’ll find that it saves you money and time. Try their 14-day FREE trial.
4. Save on Groceries with ibotta
ibotta is one of my favorite, easy apps to use when I’m grocery shopping.
Ibotta is a free app that pays you cash for everyday purchases.
Ibotta has exclusive offers at your favorite grocery stores, retailers and shops.
You can receive your earnings back by PayPal, Venmo, or have it converted into a gift card. Start saving today.
5. Stop unwanted magazine subscriptions and offers
Cut down on the clutter and get your magazine subscriptions electronically by downloading their app to your favorite device, such as your Amazon Fire, iPad, or another device.
Once you download the app, you can enter your address.
You may need your subscription number, located on the delivery label of the magazine.
Once completed, it’s time to go to the magazine’s website so you can cancel the physical delivery of your subscription.
If you run into problems and all else fails, contact the magazine’s customer support line to request digital-only delivery.
There are other lists you can unsubscribe from, such as those for pre-approved credit card offers and insurance.
To sign up, visit OptOutPrescreen.com. Be prepared to offer up your Social Security number.
6. Declutter
After years of buying ‘stuff’, I am on a mission to declutter my home.
Have you ever purchased something, only to find later that you have that exact thing at home already?
I’m guilty of that.
Decluttering can save you money by not purchasing duplicates of things you already own, not to mention the added clarity of mind and having a more peaceful living environment.
Need some help getting started?
Take a look at Marie Kondo’s #1 New York Times on bestseller book on decluttering: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing (The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up)
7. Cut paid TV
Consider cutting back on paid TV subscriptions, or better yet, cutting cable altogether.
Invite some friends over and turn some of those TV-watching nights into fun game nights by playing card games, TABOO card game, or go old school and pull out the Bop-It and Twister.
8. Borrow from the Library
Save money on buying items by going to the library.
Your local library has a wealth of items you can borrow for FREE, return, and not have to clutter your living space.
The different items you can checkout with your library card run the gamut of books, DVDs, and magazines.
Some of the local libraries in Los Angeles have even offered FREE ukulele classes and you are able to check out a ukulele with your library card. How cool is that??
9. Open an Online Savings Account.
Consider ditching your brick and mortar bank savings account for an online savings account.
Why settle for .3% when you can find 1.85% to 2% or more savings accounts online?
Here’s an example of the earnings power in percentage points: $10,000 with an annual percentage yield (APY) of 0.28% is only $28, while that same $10,000 at a 1.85% APY is $185.
That’s a no-brainer. Make sure the bank you select is insured by (FDIC) The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
10.Presence over Presents
Rethink giving presents and instead, offer your presence.
Perhaps offer someone a gift of your time, a home-cooked meal, or maybe even offering to babysit while a young couple go out for a night on the town.
That’s just 10 ways of saving money, and in the process, save time and possibly do good for others.
